Beijing University of Chinese Medicine
Founded in 1956, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) is one of the earliest established higher education institutions for Chinese medicine in the People's Republic of China. It is the exclusive traditional Chinese medical institution that entered the "211 Project" for national development directly under the supervision of Ministry of Education. And it is supervised by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
BUCM consists of 14 institutions: School of Preclinical Medicine, School of Chinese Materia Medica, School of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, School of Management, School of Nursing, School of Humanities, the First School of Clinical Chinese Medicine, the Second School of Clinical Chinese Medicine, the Third School of Clinical Chinese Medicine, International School, School of Continuing Education and School of Distance Learning, Training Center for Students from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, Department of Tertiary Vocational Education.
BUCM has striven to build a professional training system emphasizing high-level education ready for the new century. There are 10 undergraduate programs, including Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, Chinese Materia Medica, etc., 44 postgraduate programs and 41 doctoral programs offered by the university.
By now there are a total of 29115 students in the campus. Within this total, 9279 are full-time students, 34.2% of whom are Master's and PhD candidates and 13.3% of whom are international students.
BUCM is among the first batch of Chinese medical institutions to establish doctoral programs and post-doctoral research stations. The 3 first-grade subjects, namely Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, and Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, are all accredited to grant doctoral degrees, and facilitate the post-doctoral research stations.
The University now has 2 state-level first-grade subjects, 15 state-level second-grade subjects, 48 ministry-level subjects of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 10 Beijing municipality-level subjects. The key subjects of BUCM are in the leading position among the country's Chinese medicine colleges.
BUCM has 3 key laboratories at the level of the Ministry of Education, 3 key laboratories at the Beijing municipality level, and 14 key research centers at the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which are the bases for cultivating national-level researchers, teachers and other professionals of basic science and life science. We also have the Research Center for Key Technology of Herbal Preparations and Drug Innovation of the Ministry of Education, the Research Center for On-line Cooperation in Chinese Medicine, the Manufacture Engineering Center for Standardization of Medicinal Substances, the National University Science Garden.
During the five decades since its establishment, BUCM has trained more than 30,000 Chinese medicine professionals and more than 14,000 for 87 countries and regions of the world. In recent years, BUCM has established fruitful cooperative projects with 101 famous universities and academic groups in 29 countries and regions.
BUCM publishes state-level, first-class academic periodicals entitled Journal of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Journal of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (Clinical Edition) and Chinese Medicine Education. These are important windows for Chinese medicine exchange.
In recent years, the university has also established over 40 cooperative projects with institutions and organizations in 22 countries and regions, including some well-known universities such as Harvard University (USA), Middlesex University (UK), Sydney University (Australia), and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
